Over the weekend, we held the opening session of the JSA Phenomenal Abrantie Academy; a 10-week virtual seminar to groom and mentor boys into responsible gentlemen.
The opening seminar which is the first of its kind was held on the theme “Attitude is Everything” and is the beginning of a 10-week online program on video conferencing app Zoom where boys aged between 5 to 17 years will be taken through various sessions on values, goal setting and attitude to enable them become responsible well rounded adults and Phenomenal Gentlemen (Abrantie).
Starting off the session; JSA Founding Director; Mrs. Ethel Marfo first welcomed all participants to the Phenomenal Abrantie Academy on behalf of the Executive Council and stated the purpose of the initiative. She explained the idea behind a Phenomenal Abrantie; “Inspired by the Akan word for Gentleman; “Abrantie” and paired with Phenomenal which means exceptional, a JSA Phenomenal Abrantie is an outstanding male figure who exhibits exceptional qualities of gentleman behaviour such as responsibility, integrity, purpose, self-awareness, confidence, respect for self & others, emotional stability, empathy and other good characteristics worthy of emulation and recognition. A JSA Phenomenal Abrantie is value driven and possesses soft skills relevant for life including leadership, critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, communication, work ethic, social etiquette etc”.
She challenged the boys to make the best of the opportunity given to them by their parents to enable them become better men for the world. The JSA Phenomenal Abrantie Academy is here to help boys become better men who will change the narrative of what it means to be a man.
Keynote Speaker; Mr. Kodwo Baidoo an Edupreneur, Motivational Speaker, TV Personality, Father & Husband gave a presentation on the day’s theme: “Attitude is Everything”. He first identified attitude as a key foundation for success in life. He explained the meaning of attitude to the boys and spoke about the types of attitude; primarily focusing on negative and positive attitude, while emphasizing the importance of positive/good attitude. He also outlined specific habits of people with positive attitude who are highly effective people and encouraged the boys to cultivate those habits.
He recognized that parents and guardians cannot do it all and spoke about the way forward with JSA to help boys develop a more positive attitude about themselves and the world.
There was also a panel discussion with JSA Alumni Boys who shared their experiences and lessons learnt from participating in JSA programs over the years. They also discussed various issues relating to values, behaviour change and other social issues affecting women and girls mostly perpetrated by boys and how boys can desist from such acts.
Continuing next week, there will be three sessions every Sunday for boys of different age groups for the next 10 weeks. Boys between 5 to 6 years and 7 to 11 years will be taken through Values Training & Acquisition for the first 2 sessions and Teen Boys aged 12 to 17 years will have a Goal Setting Master Class for the 3rd Session where they will be guided to set goals each week under various categories for different aspects of their life such as academic, personal development, spiritual, self-care, cognitive etc.
The academy will teach, mentor, groom and guide young boys to acquire personal values and set S.M.A.R.T goals for themselves and inspire them to cultivate the right attitude and mindset to succeed in life as they transition from childhood to adulthood.
After the 10 sessions, the boys would have acquired their own personal values and set 10 S.M.A.R.T goals which will help them improve different aspects of their lives necessary for their overall upbringing.
Participating in this virtual seminar will enhance the communication, leadership and presentation skills of these boys which is necessary for their future adult lives.
For The next 10 weeks JSA shall be taking the boys on an enlightenment tour as far as Values, Goal Setting and Attitude is concerned. Contact JSA on 0244605206 for further information on how your son can participate and benefit from this program or check out “upcoming programs” here on our website.
