As part of our programmes for the year, we have commenced fundraising activities for the annual JSA Boys SDG 4 Project at Somnyamekodur D/A Basic School, in the Twifo Hemang; Lower Denkyira District of the Central Region.
The project started last year when boys from our Future Men Bootcamp raised funds to provide a year’s supply of sanitary towels for the less privileged girls in the school. This year, the project is the “Library/1 year Supply of Sanitary Towels Project”, and we are raising funds to upgrade the school’s library to an ICT library in addition to providing a yearly supply of sanitary towels for the girls in the school.

During the 3rd JSA Future Men Boot Camp held earlier this year, we had a shea butter skills training session for participants at Winamzua Creative Hive in Kokrobite. The boys learnt how to make Shea skincare products (Shea cream, lip balm and herbal soap) which we are using to raise funds for the project.
In addition to that, we also have locally made in Ghana snacks made from Coconut, and other Ghanaian agricultural products dubbed “JSA Fundraiser Yummies”, which we are also promoting and selling to fundraise for the project.

Fundraising activities started during the Bootcamp whereby participants were at Graphic, TV3 Network and Pulse Media Ghana to speak about the project and the motivation behind it. The boys were also at The Green Butterfly Bazaar held at the W.E.B. Dubois Center on the penultimate day of the camp to market and sell their self-made shea products (shea cream, shea lip balm, and herbal soap) to raise funds for the project. Afterwards, we have been at more fairs held within Accra to market and sell our products for this project. Some of the notable fairs we have been to include; the “Sip & Shop” fair at Jamrock Restaurant and Grill (East Legon), the Garden and Flower Fair at Efua Sutherland Children’s Park, the 6th Accra Food Festival by Accra Premium held at the Polo Club, the 1st International Coconut Festival held at the Accra International Conference Centre, the 1st African Cocoa and Chocolate Expo at the Accra Tourism Centre and the SMEs Market Day at the 37 Military Hospital.

Moving forward, we will be attending many more fairs and exhibitions to market and sell our JSA Fundraiser Yummies and Shea products to raise more funds for the project. This fundraising adventure will help the boys build their confidence and equip them with good marketing and public speaking skills necessary for their future development. It will also provide them with social entrepreneurial skills and inculcate in them the practice of giving back to society.

JSA is calling on the general public to support The JSA Fundraiser Yummies and The All Boys Shea Butter Charity Brand (Shea Cream, Herbal Soap and Lip Balm) by the 2019 Future Men Boot Campers to enable us gather enough funds towards this year’s JSA Boys SDG 4 Project at Somnyamekodur D/A Basic School. Support us to reach our target of GH¢ 17,000 to provide a yearly supply of Sanitary Towels to keep girls in school and a refurbished ICT Library to promote quality education in their School.
